GREEN BIN RECYCLING SERVICE WILL RECOMMENCE ON MONDAY

GREEN BIN RECYCLING SERVICE WILL RECOMMENCE ON MONDA
.
A huge fire took place on Tuesday (17th March) at a Bletchley site where recycling waste from Bedfordshire is taken, prior to it being transferred to another site in Leicestershire for processing. This resulted in an immediate cessation of recycling waste collection in Central Bedfordshire.

The council collects 80-100 tonnes of recycling waste every day, which is a massive amount to manage. The site at Bletchley was used to transfer waste from bin lorries into larger lorries before being transported for processing. And the site was the contingency after a battery fire destroyed the primary site in Elstow last July.

Since Tuesday, council Officers have been working hard to find a solution given there isn’t lots of slack in the commercial waste collection system, but capacity has been found.

We are pleased to let you know that recycling collections will commence as of Monday 23rd March.

While we don’t yet know for certain what the cause of the latest fire was, please do not place batteries in general rubbish. If you put them in a clear plastic bag on top of your bin on collection day, they will be taken away. Or take them to other collection points.
